We know there are some things we do not know.
Donald Rumsfeld
Yes we get it. Covid-19 very bad. Vaccines very good. Let me give you (U.S. government) a few suggestions how to help move the needle on vaccines.
- 1. Stop politicizing Covid-19. Treat it like the worldwide f*#&$ing pandemic it is. No, Covid-19 is not an existential or extinction level event but it is causing death and destruction in its wake on a massive scale.
- 2. Get the various shots for Covid-19 approved through the FDA. At this point, how many million doses have been administered around the world? If it is unsafe, which I don’t think the data proves, stop using it. Otherwise, approve the da$% shots and take away that excuse.
- 3. Stop fixating on the origin story of Covid-19. Honestly, the ability to find the smoking gun or the dotted red line that connects origin to outbreak probably passed two or more years ago. The Chinese government is being extremely unhelpful in finding out the truth and I would think most or all of the people associated with the original outbreak will not be found. The only positive I can think of for finding out the origin is if the Wuhan lab had any data on the coronaviruses they were analyzing that may help with a vaccine or a better understanding of the virus. Otherwise, it is just political finger pointing in my mind.
- 4. Change your messaging to reflect point 1. I firmly believe many of the elite across the spectrum believe the masses can’t handle the truth (lies of omission) or will not take appropriate action without proper messaging (political spin). Experts still don’t fully understand Covid-19. It is OK to state that openly. Maybe the people will be more accepting of missteps if Covid-19 is not politicized and we understand even the experts are still bumbling in the dark on some aspects of Covid-19 as they work hard to gain a better understanding. Opinions put forth by said experts are being turned into law by local, state and federal governments. These laws have affected almost every facet of everyday life for the American people. Take the time and energy to fully explain what/when/how/why actions are being taken. Don’t mistake dictating on a communication podium an acceptable alternative to putting the time and effort into informing the public.
- 5. Get in front of emerging news. Current messaging is that, “If you have two shots against Covid-19 you are vaccinated forever.” While I am sure that is comforting to millions, it may not be true. Propagating that message is driving governments around the world to enact draconian measures and possible allowing the vaccinated to believe they are safe from the virus when they aren’t. Studies that have been reported on recently indicate antibodies from Covid-19 diminish by 50% over 6 months to a year. It stands to reason that they all probably do. It is also becoming increasingly apparent that the current shots are not 100% effective against contracting the Delta variant of Covid-19. If you want to keep on message with, “These are one in ten thousand breakthrough cases.” then you are essentially asking people to believe you or their lying eyes. If you want to take a stand and politically die on that hill that is your right. This would be my communication, “Indications are that the effectiveness of the shots to currently combat Covid-19 are reduced over time. There are also indications the current vaccines are only partially effective against the Delta variant currently sweeping the globe. To paraphrase a war quote, you can’t fight Covid-19 with the vaccine you want, you fight it with the shots you have. While currently available shots to Covid-19 may not be 100% effective against contracting the Delta mutation, indications are strong that any symptoms and severity will be reduced. We continue to strongly recommend receiving shots against Covid-19 to protect yourself. The need for booster shots will be analyzed and recommendations will be forthcoming soon. If you have any questions about any specific medical conditions you may have or possible side effects see your doctor and have them answered soon.”
- 6. Come up with information and direction about kids under 12 and Covid-19. Something. Anything. Preferably coherent. While kids under 12 may not be at high risk for severe cases of the virus, they will still be contagious.
