CDC has just changed directives on mask wearing for vaccinated people, AGAIN. I haven’t even heard any coherent justification for this decision so far. If it is true that the Covid-19 shots are permanent silver bullets, it is hard to justify. The best I can come up with is because of the fact there are no visible verification of vaccination. I believe they are changing mask requirements for an actual reason. Pfizer, Israel, the UK, China and several studies have all indicated that the current vaccines lose 50% of antibodies over 6 months to a year and the current vaccines are not as effective against the Delta variant. So, a few points and observations:
- Over the next two weeks it will have to be acknowledged by the U.S. government, CDC and NIH that current vaccines do lose potency over time and don’t fully inoculate against Delta. Why? Fauci has already broached the idea that boosters for current vaccines may be required. In addition, this meme that, “Delta breakthrough cases are one in ten thousand.” will fall completely apart. Israel and the UK are months ahead of the U.S. on the Delta wave and gone on record weeks ago that hospitalizations of the vaccinated for Delta are not only possible but prevalent.
- The U.S. government, CDC and NIH probably won’t but definitely should come under the microscope for when they knew about the decay of potency in Covid-19 vaccines over time and the potential issue of vaccinated people being susceptible to Delta. Hey, I am a nobody and I knew about these concerns weeks ago. Do I take those reports as fact? No. But these were report outs from governments, not some one off crazy person. This is a world wide pandemic. Do the really believe that the U.S. government, CDC or NIH were not aware almost immediately about these reports? Do you think they did not know that Pfizer has been working on a booster for current shots and a separate shot for Delta. When did someone from the U.S. government, CDC or NIH call Pfizer or Israel or the UK to get the data they are reviewing? Did they call? Not being transparent with this information as soon as it became available is willful neglect if not criminal. Remember, Biden and Psaki are on record accusing social media platforms of murder for not properly policing comments posted on their sites. How worse is it that the entities responsible for public safety may have not been truthful with the American people in an attempt to fault unvaccinated people. They have even floated a weak and ludicrous link between the unvaccinated and the Republican party.
- The heads of the CDC, NIH and WHO need to be replaced. I believe they have lost the public’s confidence. True or not, they have been run through the mud on gain of function funding of a coronavirus lab in Wuhan. They are viewed more as entrenched politicians than doctors. Most importantly, it feels like they are wrong more than your local weatherperson or a broken clock. Clear the deck and let the American public start with fresh people that the American people have not judged poorly.
- I am not recommending Ms. Jen Psaki be outed, but she absolutely must get out of the Covid-19 communication business. Let her continue to do her job parroting carefully honed talking points for her boss. She is not a doctor or staying at a Holiday Inn. And it shows. The obvious choice is to have the Surgeon General report out on all things Covid. They may be viewed as a small buffer between politics and science. I am sure that would not be the result but it would possibly improve the optics.
